Questions And Answers
Q.
Is there a list with the new unique items? I
found the Blizzen (bow shots with lightning) and
the rings moving mana->health,
health->mana. What's the coolest staff for a
monk?
I think a king's staff of jester would be very
cool :))) I found a breast plate with -8 AC too,
but I do not know if it's new. I sold it.

Q.
Is fastest hit recovery for a character 38 monk
necessary? I tried it and I think, I don't need
it.
A. No..
Q.
Could it be the calculation of the Armor class is
very mysterious? A read, the monk isn't able to
wear heavy armours (> AC 17). But I wear a
full plate AC 70 with about +100% AC (magic,
blessed) - and my monk wins AC + 70. I know, that
this AC 70 comes from the blessed (you do not get
the AC 70 from full plate mail, but the +100 % AC
from the "blessed"), but the question
is, is it intended or a bug?
A. Not mysterious at all:
AC = Dex/5 + level*2
If you use plate you will only get: Dex/5 (the
plates full AC of course).
If you use mail you will get: Dex/5+level/2 (the
plates full AC)
(Note this only applies for a Monk.)
Q.
How do I get better stuff?? Naked or Wearing
items??
A. Usually that is what happens. A player with
nothing equipped and no cash gets the best stuff.
And the more characters you have with you the
better chances you have as well.
Q.
Is there a better shield then of brilliance?
Shields are very hard to find...
A. No.
Q.
Is it possible to push spells over lvl 15 by
reading WITHOUT magic items increasing spells?
A. No.
Q.
Why It is possible to kill a steel lord (I killed
over 1000 :).) with 2 hits? He's got over 500 hit
points, and I make less then 150. Or is the
damage the monk makes without staff added to the
damage he makes with staff?
A. Because of a bug all monsters have 200
(actually 197) HP less than stated in hell
difficulty. It will be fixed in the upcoming
patch.
Q.
Can I play multi-player B.net but yet play solo?
A. Yes , you can create a private game. 11. Q. I
can't kill the Butcher , how can I? A. Rouge: I
think the easiest way is open the door to the
Butcher's room... get him to chase you into a
room with portcallises (gates on the walls you
can shoot your bow through). Shut the door behind
you before he enters and shoot him with your bow
while he just stands there. Warrior: Use your
sword and hack away and make sure you don't stand
" lose " but stay in a door way.
Sorcer: Open the door. Cast firewall and then
close the door. Pratice makes perfect.
Q.
Why can't I kill Lachdanman ?
A. Basically, you have to save one of King
Leoric's Captain of the Guard, Lachdanman, who
has been possessed by evil. Still maintaining his
composure, despite his transformation, he asks
you to help him find a golden elixir that will
release him from his living prison. The elixir is
found on the next level. Once you give him the
elixir, he thanks you and leaves an enchanted
helmet called the "Steel Veil".
Q.
I've heard Diablo II has already come out , what
is it like? Where can you buy it?
A. You mixing up Hellfire with Diablo II.
Hellfire is an ADD-ON for Diablo. Diablo II is a
different game!

Q.
What is the search spell / skill?
A. This spell is for when you pump 10 guardians
into a room and duck around the corner, then you
hear a ring drop, "Christ, ill never find it
in that big room". turn on your search spell
and the ring lights up like a Christmas tree :)
you don't find secrets or hidden items with this
spell, just the junk you left on the floor. its a
spell you get from books, scrolls, staves. I've
never played the monk, but if its not his skill
then its not a skill at all. if it is then he got
a bad skill :)
Q.
The Bonvine plate makes all the monsters "
wake up " , which class is it intended for?
A. Postings:
> I finally got around to playing a Warrior
game with the cowquest activated, and got the
Bovine Plate for the first time. I played the
Caves (normal) for a trial run, and decided I
don't like this Armor on first impression. The
plus stats are almost too good for a level 20
character. I mean AC of 150? I was so untouchable
in melee that it almost wasn't any fun (almost).
But for long term use, the negative side of this
Armor makes it worth about the $100 Griz offered
me IMHO.
> The +50% light radius wakes up every monster
in the level within about two minutes of
entering. I realise the layout of the caves
contributes to this problem, but I ended up
fighting almost every monster in the level all at
once. Also, the -1 to all spells zeroed out about
half of my Warrior's limited spell book. I don't
need much more than a level 1 stone curse right
now, but I hate to lose it entirely. Finally, the
thing is just darn ugly. Jeez, it has an udder.
It looks so bad sitting on the ground that I
didn't even want it with the rest of my stuff (I
took it up to Complete Nut...let him look at it).
> I am curious as to other players' opinions.
Is this the Armor of choice once you get it, or
do you leave it on the ground in town? I
considered not Identifying it to just get the AC,
but then it's still so ugly. Works fine for my
monk. Maybe it ain't that good for a Warrior
considering the penalty for the spell level it
has, but it works fine for me.
I have found the best way to use the bovine plate
is to not identifying it. It is then just plain
150 indestructible Armor. Hard to get better for
the bard or warrior.
Q.
I want to be legit but I don't know what is legit
and what is not. How can I tell?
A. Anything dropped as an reward or monster stuff
and chests. Also what you buy.
Q.
Will Diablo II still have pks?
A. You should be worried about the problem with
the big buddy helping out the little buddy is
that in a game where PK-ing is allowed, where you
cannot back up your chars (server-side storage),
and in which it is possible to lose your items,
introducing players with items handed down from
high-level characters breaks the balance of a
low-level game - the gifted PK can slaughter
others in a completely unfair battle. It is just
as bad as the cheating PKs now that pick on
legits. Right now in Diablo I can simply restore
my character when I get PK-ed and get my items
back ( - I'm talking about situations where the
PKs wound you enough in battle so that you get
killed by monsters), but if in Diablo 2 I can no
longer do this, then this issue with high level
characters passing items down still needs to be
dealt with, because it'll be as bad as now when
people actually hack their characters.
Q.
Can I find two uniques in one game?
A. I am unsure. But : >I was doing a SP/MP
Hell run, normal difficulty, Hellfire and on L14
I got the Sachatori (new unique, looks like a
samurai sword, 1 handed,+10 Magic, pierces Armor,
fastest attack and a few other attributes I can't
remember) and then on L15 I got it again. Sold
them both for 9000. >Never have I got 2 of the
same in one game. Ever happen to you?
>Just as a side note, it was at that time I
wish I was in SP mode. I would have loved to have
been able to drop them off for my rogue.
Did a Laz run with my MAGE the other day, worst
game of all time:
Laz: Needler
Blackjade: Flamedart
Advocate: Flamedart
As you can see - all found on the same level and
within pixels of each other. Then I topped it off
by hitting "quit" accidentally and
losing all my stuff in town. Different post: I
have collected, in the same multi-player game,
two Defender staves. In fact, at one time they
were both in my pack at the same time. Different
post: Not often but it happens occasionally, once
I even got the Gnarled Root tree times in Lazarus
level.
Q.
Where is the Thinking Cap?
A. I've found one in Diablo multiplayer, playing
the upper catacombs (level 5 or 6) solo. A plain
old Fallen One dropped it. One tip: don't wear it
until you up its durability. When you find a
Hidden Shrine, remove all your weapons and Armor.
Equip the Thinking Cap and some junk Armor only.
Touch the shrine and the Cap's AC should increase
by 10. I wear the Cap with a durability of 11,
but I've got to take REAL good care of it. I have
yet to find another Hidden Shrine, so I don't
know it behaves a second time.
Q.
Which level can I get Torn Flesh Of The Souls
from?
A. On level one. I got it from a Small Chest.
It's indestructible , I do need ALOT more info on
it.
Q.
Will ( If any ) Diablo II cheaters be able to go
to Battle.net?
A. I do think the idea proposed earlier, that
b.net somehow identify characters which are
"pure" b.net and ones which have been
altered somehow between b.net logons, is a good
one. It wouldn't necessarily mean that the folks
who had changes in their characters between
sessions were non-legit, but it would let those
who like the idea of server-only characters play
with other server-only players (or folks they
know) while letting people who must or just want
to play on their own or over a LAN use their same
characters on b.net.
Q.
It there a " bug " which will make you
lose what you've done in a game??
A. And if that was the session where you found a
Royal Circlet, it would still be a Big Deal. Not
to mention the fact that "backed up many
times" is no guarantee. How often will
Blizzard make a tape backup of every single
person who plays D2? Because if something goes
really wrong, all the data on a server could be
lost or corrupted. Then what? "Oh, well, I
can always get my now-level 28 rogue up to level
42 again, no problem." I don't think so.
Q.
What do the shrines do?
A. Unfortunately this is not complete:
-Oily - "That which does not kill
you...". Lights a fire under you and
increases your strength.
- Shimmering - "Spiritual energy is
restored". Refills mana ball.
- Glowing - "Knowledge is power". +5 to
Magic, lose some experience points.
- Solar - "You feel more agile" (now
that's original and witty). +2 Dexterity. tells
me that this one has given her a number of
different messages, raising different stats, so
it appear to be a variable shrine.
- Town - "There's no place like home".
Casts Town Portal.
- Murphy's - "That which can break
will". Reduces current durability of an item
by half.
- Mendicant's - "Give and you shall
receive". Converts half of your gold into
Experience.
- Sparkling Shrine - "Some experience is
gained by touch". Gives experience, casts a
spell that looks like flash but bigger and lasts
longer just where you stand.
- I don't know if this is actually related to the
Hellfire add-on or not, but for the first time
ever, I have found Gloomy and Weird Shrines in a
game.
For more information go to the Shrines page.
Q.
What are the commands to ban / unban ban etc?
A. Basic commands:
/whois Example: /whois Mark. Looks up some basic
information on a user, including the user's
current location and account number. This is a
great way to find your friends online. Aliases
for this command: /where is, /where
/whisper Example: /whisper Pat Hi Pat! Sends a
private message to a user online regardless of
which channel that user is in. This is an
excellent way to let your friends know you are
online. Aliases for this command: /w /msg
/squelch Examples: /squelch Allen or /squelch
#683989. Ignores any future messages from that
user, effectively muting that user to you.
Aliases for this command: /ignore
/unsquelch Examples: /unsquelch Allen or
/unsquelch #683989. Allows a previously squelched
user to talk to you normally. Aliases for this
command: /unignore
/join Examples: /join bar. Joins a different
channel without having to use the channel join
screen. Aliases for this command: /channel
/who Examples: /who bar. Displays a list of all
the users in the channel. If no channelname is
specified it lists the users in the current
channel
/users Example: /users.
Displays statistics about the number of users
currently connected to Battle.net.
Operator commands:
Operator commands only apply to private channels.
The first person to create a private channel
becomes the operator of that channel. You can
tell who is the operator of a channel by looking
for the user with the gavel. When the channel
operator leaves, he can pass on the gavel to an
heir that he designates.
/designate Examples: /designate Allen or
/designate #673989.
Selects a person to become the channel operator
when you step down, either by resigning or by
leaving the channel.
/resign Example: /resign. Step down as channel
operator and become a normal user again. Aliases
for this command: /rejoin
/kick Examples: /kick Adam or /kick #578369.
Kicks a user out of the channel. This is best
used as a warning since a kicked user can return
at his leisure.
/ban Examples: /ban Adam or /ban #578369. Kicks a
user out of the channel and prevents them him
returning until the current operator steps down
or leaves the channel. This is the most powerful
command at an operator's disposal, so use it
wisely.
/unban Examples: /unban Adam or /unban #578369.
Allows a banned user to return to the channel.
Q.
Which is better?? Sorcerer or warrior?
A. (from postings.)
I wish that were true. A friend of mine and I
tried an experiment a while back, he was using a
sorcerer, I was using a warrior. We were both
approaching 35th level at the time, with
appropriately high Armor Classes (I think in the
220s or 230s). He just stood there while I took a
good shot at him with a Platinum Sword of Speed.
My 'to hit' was in the 140s%. Well, I stood there
and whacked at him for several minutes, never did
hit him. So, I'm not sure a monk would have much
better luck.
